Privacy policy

Information we do not collect

CostlyHome has no lead forms, no email capture, no account system and no newsletter. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, street address or zip code anywhere on this site, and we do not sell or share personal information with contractors or lead brokers.

The values you enter into a calculator are processed entirely in your browser. They are never transmitted to our servers, because the calculators contain no server component. The site is a set of static files and all arithmetic runs on your device.

If you choose to use the 'Share this estimate' button, your inputs are encoded into the page URL so the link reproduces your estimate. That URL is only shared if you deliberately share it.

Information collected automatically

Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are visited and how visitors reach the site. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects information including browser type, device type, referring page and pages visited. Your IP address is used to derive an approximate location and is not stored by Google Analytics. We use this in aggregate only, to decide what to build next.

Hosting logs. Our host, Cloudflare Pages, maintains standard server logs including IP addresses and request details for security and operational purposes.

Advertising and Google AdSense

This site may display advertising served by Google AdSense. Where it does, Google uses cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.

Third-party vendors and ad networks may also serve ads on this site and may use cookies to do so. You can opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info/choices or optout.networkadvertising.org.

We do not control what data third-party advertising partners collect, and their practices are governed by their own privacy policies rather than this one.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. This site uses them in three ways: analytics cookies set by Google Analytics; any advertising cookies set by Google AdSense and its partners, where advertising is displayed; and a single functional preference stored in your browser's local storage recording whether you selected light or dark mode.

The dark mode preference never leaves your device and is not transmitted anywhere. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. The calculators will continue to work normally, though your theme preference will not persist between visits.

Your rights

If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK, the GDPR gives you rights to access, correct, delete and port personal data, and to object to processing. Because we do not collect personal information directly, most such requests concern data held by Google as our analytics and advertising provider, and should be directed to Google.

If you are a California resident, the CCPA gives you the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information as defined by the CCPA.

Children's privacy

This site is intended for adult homeowners and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will address it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
